The world is changing. Millenials are slowly taking jobs in the corporate and as per Forbes magazine, there will be 70% millennials in US organisations by 2025.

Millenials need more freedom to work, corporates have a limitation in providing opportunities for experimentation. While corporate gives good opportunity to work, but higher risk appetite of youngster clubbed with opportunities in India have given wings to entrepreneurship/ self-employment.  Ideas are plenty and they have support coming from changing organisations needs. The other set of Millenials are ready to join Start-Ups where the salary is not the main factor, but the innovation and passion to do new things help in becoming self-managed employees.

This new age economy is called Gig Economy. Gig word comes from Projects. So it is in other words Project based economy where professionals take the assignments with clear deliverables and timelines.

The professionals who are involved in Gig Economy are called Gig Economy Workers or Gig Economy Professionals or GEPs.

FlexiOrg – an organisation which is focusing on creating Gig Economy ecosystem. It focuses on Right Time Employment, which means the right person for a specific project with a clear timeline which is called RIGHT TIME.

Niti Aayog released India's National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence| Ajay Sharma | #AIFORALL #AI

National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence

Recently Niti Aayog released its National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. Where it talked about various aspects of AI, what is it, how will it be used in India, Where are the gaps & challenges, how do we acquire expertise in these areas, which sector will get the best advantage from India's point of view.

There is a huge opportunity predicted in the paper and it is estimated that India's annual Growth rate can be boosted by 1.3% points by 2035. As per Accenture, AI will drive innovation in India and may add 1 trillion USD by 2035.

The discussion paper talks about some interesting concepts like Solve for India means to solve for 40% or more of the world. What it says that AI-based solutions developed in India can be easily applied to developing & emerging countries.

Focus Sector for Artificial Intelligence for India
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Smart Cities
  • Smart Mobility
  • Healthcare

However, there are challenges in implementation

Some of these are mentioned in the strategy document. These are not an exhaustive list but raise important points.

  • Lack of enabling data ecosystems
  • Low intensity of AI research
    • i. Core research in fundamental technologies
    • ii. Transforming core research into market applications
  • Inadequate availability of AI expertise, manpower and skilling opportunities
  • High resource cost and low awareness for adopting AI in business processes
  • Unclear privacy, security and ethical regulations
  • Unattractive Intellectual Property regime to incentivise research and adoption of AI.

Do we have enough EXPERTS in AI?

The paper talks about the lack of AI Experts and Original research in India. It recommends an agile approach to boost expertise development through COREs (Centres of Research Excellence in Artificial Intelligence) & ICTAI (International Centre for Transformational Artificial Intelligence). COREs will be focused on core research, in evolving and new areas of AI, and will act as the technology feeders for ICTAIs which will be focused on creating AI-based applications for, and accelerating early adoption in, domains of societal importance.

My take on the availability of AI Experts is a bit simpler, we need to take the advantage of being late movers in this space. India has the high calibre in creating software for APPLICATION of technology. While the discussion paper focuses on various long-term strategies to develop expertise in AI, however, our ICT Experts can work on two main areas in next few years.
  • Creation of quality training data required for developing AI in select sectors
  • Developing Application software based on AI technology available from other countries and leapfrog into use cases related to Healthcare, education, smart cities, Smart mobility and Agriculture.

So let's make the best use of these experts for the benefits of our citizens. This will enable India in developing AI ecosystem, acceptability, and most importantly managing the fear of job losses and privacy issues.

We, at Get Me Experts are aggregating the experts in Artificial Intelligence from across the world so that a co-development approach can be used in developing high-end algorithms or solutions which can help India and also other developing countries.

I strongly recommend that everyone related to Artificial Intelligence, either in India or Overseas, must read whole strategy paper #aiforall
